Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know whether chiropractic care is right for me?
If you have chronic back or neck pain or headaches which recur or persist, you may be a candidate for chiropractic care. If knots occur in your muscles in the same places over and over, and other treatments make you feel better but only temporarily, you may find the root problem can be resolved with chiropractic. If you look in a mirror and notice that your head, shoulders or hips appear crooked or if one leg seems longer than the other, chiropractic care can help.

Chiropractic treatment is not the answer for all conditions; however, it does correct many more issues than one may think. Misalignment of the spine can cause a myriad of health issues that will resolve once proper alignment is restored. If Dr. Koeppen determines you are not a suitable candidate for chiropractic care, you will be referred to an appropriate health care professional.

How many visits will it takes to feel better?
It depends on the severity of your condition. On average, a favorable result is achieved within the first month of treatment; however there are good and bad days for everyone. Healing is a process which takes time. Our clinic is not a pain relief practice; our goal is to correct the underlying issues that are causing pain (rather than the symptoms) and help patients achieve long-lasting health.

What is Active Rest?
Active Rest is the concept that while you sit or lie still, your brain and body are actively engaged in the healing process. This is why, immediately following a chiropractic adjustment, it is important that you rest. During the adjustment the alignment of your neck was corrected, opening communication lines again between your brain and the rest of your body. With this communication re-set, your body will “reboot” and all systems will begin the healing process.

What type of adjustments do you do?
Dr. Koeppen does the lightest adjustment possible. Typically you are lying on your side, like you are taking a nap. There is no twisting and pulling on the head or neck. Cracking or popping is rarely used in this type of care. You may feel a light pressure, or gentle tap, under your ear.

What can I do to learn more about this type of health care?
Learn about chiropractic care during a consultation appointment with Dr. Koeppen, available at no charge. Dr. Koeppen also offers classes for those who are interested in learning how they can continue improving their health at home in between chiropractic treatment.

Is chiropractic care covered by insurance?
Check with your insurance company as coverage varies by provider. Each patient is responsible for payment when services are rendered. If you do have coverage through insurance, a super bill can be provided to you upon request that you submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Is chiropractic care expensive?
It is not expensive compared to the time and performance lost due to pain and suffering. A short term investment in spinal correction can create a long term return of pain free living.

Do you prescribe medications?
No. However, there are many highly qualified medical doctors in the San Diego area. Talk to your M.D.
